Local Government and Sustainability Forum
The Japan Local Government Centre (CLAIR) and the UTS Centre for Local Government (UTS:CLG) are co-hosting the 2016 CLAIR Forum to be held at the University of Technology Sydney on Wednesday 24 February between 2pm and 5pm.
The theme of this year's Forum is 'Local Government and Sustainability', and will feature presentations from senior staff and researchers from both Australian and Japanese local governments, UTS and CLAIR, on how local governments can implement policies and initiatives that effectively address both local and global environmental issues.
Drinks and networking will follow the Forum. The event is free and open to all. Places limited.

Session 1: Waste management and recycling Waste management and recycling is an ongoing concern for all local authorities. In this session, speakers will discuss efforts to more efficiently reduce, reuse and recycle, using case studies from both Australia and Japan, outlining the differing approaches both countries are taking and will employ in the future. There will be a Q&A session after these presentations. Panellists:

Session 2: Global environment and local government The term 'glocalism' reflects local regions’ attempts to relevantly adapt their processes to more environmentally friendly methods, working with enviro-projects in their jurisdictions and engaging with other levels of government. In this session, panellists will share cases of the role local government plays in global environmental challenges, followed by a Q&A session. Panellists:
