`Implementing the Australian Business Excellence Framework: Eight Local Government Case Studies` Released
03 August 2011

UTS Centre for Local Government and Australian Centre of Excellence for Local Government, in partnership with SAI Global, recently released a series of detailed case studies regarding the implementation of the Australian Business Excellence Framework (BEF) within local government.

In consultation with SAI Global and LGBEN, eight Australian councils known for being progressive and innovative in their approach to continuous improvement were selected to participate in the development of the case studies. The selected councils represent a cross section in terms of size, geographic and demographic profiles.

Business Excellence Co-Ordinator for Port Stephens Council, Zoe Pattison, was seconded to the UTS: Centre for Local Government to prepare and coordinate the case studies.  Zoe visited each council and conducted interviews with key staff to obtain their opinions, knowledge and experiences.

Findings from the case studies reflect that each organisation has a different focus as it works to continuously improve outcomes, and while each council begins on its BEF journey with an organization performance review, the continuous improvement programs in each of the councils varied depending on their identified strengths and weaknesses.
