The next seminar in the ACELG Seminar Series 'From Government to Governance' is scheduled for 14 November 2014, in which Robin Hambleton, Professor of City Leadership at the University of the West of England, will be discussing place-based leadership.

Robin Hambleton is Professor of City Leadership at the University of the West of England, Bristol and Director of Urban Answers, a company he founded in 2007. Professor Hambleton worked in local government in the UK, has been an Adviser to UK local government ministers, a consultant to Select Committees of the UK House of Parliament, and has written national guidance documents for councils in England, Wales and Scotland. He is the founding President of the European Urban Research Association (EURA) – an international association created in 1997 to enhance research-based exchange relating to cities. From 2002-07 he was the Dean of the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

This seminar is part of a series of networking functions hosted by ACELG featuring stimulating presentations by international and national experts in governance, local government and sustainable place-making. "From Government to Governance" will examine current thinking on the role of local government, including:

  • Can Local Government work well together?
  • How can Local Government establish relationships with other levels of government?
  • How can citizens be part of shaping their community's future?
  • What does a modern Local Government Councillor look like?
  • Who really cares about Local Government?
  • What is the status of local government reform in NSW and elsewhere?
  • Where does Local Government sit on the Federal Government's agenda?
