Associate Professor Roberta Ryan is Director of the Australian Centre of Excellence for Local Government and UTS Centre for Local Government. She is a leading public policy, evaluation and research analyst with over 30 years' experience in Australia and internationally. Roberta specialises in new approaches to applying research to policy, particularly in the areas of community engagement, sustainability, policy evaluation, and social and strategic planning.
As a director of a public policy and urban planning consultancy practice, Roberta worked with local government in strategic planning, social and land use planning, research, community engagement, organisational development and sustainability. As an academic at UNSW and Macquarie University Roberta researched and taught in the areas of social research and policy evaluation, and collaborated extensively with the local government sector including winning an ARC Linkage Project with five local governments and the NSW Department of Local Government as partners.
Roberta has also provided high level strategic advisory and applied policy research for federal, state and local government agencies in areas including housing, health, ageing and place making; open space, recreation and community facilities; population forecasting; community engagement; liveability and sustainability. Roberta's expertise is local government strategic analysis and organisational development, planning cities, citizen engagement and sustainability.
