WA Workforce Planning - Capacity Building Workshops
ACELG recently participated in a workforce planning forum in Perth hosted by the Western Australia Department of Local Government. At the forum, the Minister for Local Government Hon John Castrilli encouraged 120 senior local government representatives to attend the upcoming Workforce Planning: Capacity Building workshops to be delivered in partnership with ACELG.
The WA Department of Local Government is working with the ACELG, the UTS Centre for Local Government (UTS-CLG) and Local Government Managers Australia WA Division to deliver a number of two-day Workforce Planning Capacity Building workshops for council staff across Western Australia in September and October 2012.
At the Forum in Perth, Assistant Director of UTS-CLG Sarah Artist presented an overview of ACELG`s approach to National Workforce Development, and her presentation is available here - Download Presentation
According to the Department, local governments in that state will need to have staff with appropriate knowledge, skills and expertise to meet increasing and diverse challenges in providing services and facilities for their communities. The forum`s focus therefore was upon workforce planning as a key component of their new Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework. Councils will be required to respond to new legislative provisions for Workforce Planning by June 2013.
At the forum, the Minister launched a new toolkit "Workforce Planning: The Essentials” to help Western Australia’s local government sector address the increasing and diverse challenges in providing services to their communities. Further information can be found at the WA DLG Integrated Planning site (opens to an external page).
ACELG`s national Local Government Workforce Strategy commissioned by the Local Government and Planning Ministers Council is is due for release in coming months.
Further information about the September-October workshops will be posted soon, or contact contact Sarah Artist: 02 9514 4896 | [email protected]
